The first one is my dad he is about 6 and that was in the back garden (my nan still lives in the house). The picture next to it is my brother (his son), in our back garden roughly 15 months old, holding a football. The bottom right picture is my dad holding my son the day he was born. I am his first child and that was mine.

2nd marriage photo


The bride is my grand aunt, born 1903, Mount Terrace, Wenman Street, Balsall Heath, on the day of her 2nd marriage. Her first husband had died, leaving her with 2 children. My mother is also in this picture - the child in the hat on the right next to the bicycle. The groom was born 1899. I do not know (for sure) anyone else in the picture.

Maya Rai


Maya was born in the Suva, Fiji Islands and moved to Willenhall in the 1950’s with her Husband and 2 eldest children. Maya had a further 2 children born in Willenhall, one of which was Alfred (pictured third aged 6). Alfred has always lived and worked in the area and married Nicola in 1990. Their eldest of 2 children, Megan, was born in 1993, pictured last here at aged 8 months in the family christening dress at Woodside Way, Short Heath, Willenhall.

The 1st photo is of Katherine (Katy) and myself on her 2nd Birthday. It was taken just before the guests arrived for her party, at our home, 65 Southgate Road, Great Barr. The 2nd photo was also taken in our Southgate Road home and shows Mom (Jean Gunter) holding Katy at the party which followed her Christening, which took place at St Matthews Church, Perry Beeches.

Charles Barwell


This is a photograph of my Father and Grandfather, front centre is Cecil Barwell and next to him my Father Bryan Barwell, together with the men from our factory who made up the James Barwell Limited No 1 Platoon HQ Company of the 40th Warwickshire Battalion Home Guard. The business ran for 130 years on Great Hampton Street in Hockley. This photograph was taken outside their parade ground at Icknield Street School. We still live in Birmingham, and my children are 10th generation Brummies.

The last seaside picture is mum Joan Williams and myself Dawn Corfield taken on holiday in Llandudno Wales. This is the holiday where I cried at Punch and Judy on the prom. I still don’t like them!!

Lyn di Mascio


This is my nonna and nonno. Her parents fled Italy. They had il baccio della morte. The mafias kiss of death. Maria Carmina eloped with Giuseppe (my great grandparents). She had been promised to someone else. They jumped on the first boat not knowing the destination. When they arrived here they were sent to Birmingham where they set up a boarding house in the old Italian quarter. Giuseppe also made ice cream and sold it.
