My paternal Grandparents with four of their boys during WW1. My Granddad worked in Cadbury’s Bridge St factory and moved to Bournville to raise his family. All five boys spent the whole of their working lives at Cadburys apart from taking part in WW2.

Stephen Godwin

3 generations of the Godwin's of Winson Green. The old guy seated, William Henry, his father was stabbed by his partner in Sutton on Boxing Day 1875. Less than a year later, William was born and adopted by his Uncle. His wife (seated) Sarah was a gentle soul and stood 6ft. She lived with a cancer on her head which she covered with her hair. She lived and ran a small shop at 169 Devonshire Street. Their son (standing) is holding a child Mary. At 6ft 5, like his Mom, a gentle soul, he married Maud (standing with the baby), a dot compared to him but the matriarch among them all. The well dressed lady with the girl standing (Philomena) is Aunt Liz - in 50 days time she would be on the autistic spectrum. The couple getting married were Rose Godwin and George Pritchard who continued to reside in Devonshire Street. The 2 young girls died, one aged 12, the other 9 I think, within a year of each other. Philomena lived her final months in a rehabilitation unit in the Malverns as the illness had caused her to go blind. Maud and William lived at 95 Caversham Road, Kingstanding. The elder, William Henry, was a cobbler and a Freeman of Stafford. His family were Cordwainers. I have the history back to 1640.

I didn't have many photos of my paternal grandparents, whom I couldn't meet because they died in 1969, but one day talking to one of my aunts, she showed me a photo album that I didn't know existed. In this album I found this image. I think it is one of the most beautiful portraits of my paternal family.

From the left we can see in the photo my grandmother Adelaida Rivera Pérez carrying my uncle Gustavo. Then we see my aunts Hayde and María Elena together with my father Roberto. And finally my grandfather Guillermo Olazo Villena appears.

Stephen Fell

Taken in May 2012, this is four generations of the Fell family. My father, sitting, was from a family of six, four brothers and two sisters. The other three brothers only had daughters so I was the only male Fell to continue the family name. Fortunately I had a son and this was the day that Great Grandad Fell got to hold his Great Grandson, George, for the first time.
