Right: Amelia Rose Blackwood taken just after she was born on 19 January 2012 who is my great granddaughter - Holly is her mom (Amelia’s brother is Zachary Ronnie born 1 September 2014 My great grandson) and they are my pride and joy. It has been a privilege to have helped to care for them and watch them grow while still fit and able to do so. They are both lovely children and a credit to their parents.

Me and my siblings tried to do an arty photo for my mums 48th! We did this in Cannon Hill Park when I lived in Selly Park! We used the park that runs along the river on the way to dog pool lane.

This is my favourite photo of my late parents Iran and Joyce. Dad was born in Portland Jamaica and came to England in January 1954 and met the love of his life, our wonderful mother Joyce, who was born in Saltley, Birmingham. They met at work at the Co-Op Meat Depot, Albert Street, Birmingham at the Christmas works do. They had their first kiss under the mistletoe. Dad and Mom didn't have much money but this photo was taken for a special reason: to sent to Jamaica so Dad's mother could have a photo of her son and his family. This photo was taken in 1957 as Dad's mother Adina in Jamaica requested a photo of her son Iran, wife Joyce and her two Grandsons. Sadly Adina never had the chance to meet her Grandchildren so this photo was important and stayed on her wall in Jamaica till her sad passing. I'm not in the photo as I wasn't born then! The couple went on to have a total of five children.

Sue Hawkins


Dad, born Ladywood 1936, joined the REME regiment 7th December 1954. This is Dad showing one of the many activities (football, boxing, cricket, lifeguard) he participated in during his time in the army. He was very proud of his Birmingham roots. The second photo is on his wedding day to my Mom, Brenda Doris Greaves on 22nd December 1962, with my two Nans and Grandad, William & Annie Hawkins & Nora Greaves. They all lived in Ladywood.
