Adam Khan
A picture of my family unit, being a care leaver. Having experienced many disadvantages, I feel it’s important to understand that the heteronormative family unit isn’t representative of society today.
Me, Adam. I’m a non-binary, neurodivergent social activist and community leader.

This is my favourite photo of my late parents Iran and Joyce. Dad was born in Portland Jamaica and came to England in January 1954 and met the love of his life, our wonderful mother Joyce, who was born in Saltley, Birmingham. They met at work at the Co-Op Meat Depot, Albert Street, Birmingham at the Christmas works do. They had their first kiss under the mistletoe. Dad and Mom didn't have much money but this photo was taken for a special reason: to sent to Jamaica so Dad's mother could have a photo of her son and his family. This photo was taken in 1957 as Dad's mother Adina in Jamaica requested a photo of her son Iran, wife Joyce and her two Grandsons. Sadly Adina never had the chance to meet her Grandchildren so this photo was important and stayed on her wall in Jamaica till her sad passing. I'm not in the photo as I wasn't born then! The couple went on to have a total of five children.

Picture of me circa 1974 with my grandparents. Lived in a multi-generational home with parents and grandparents until their passing a few years ago. This was taken around my 1st birthday in our front room in Winson Green which was used as a workshop where my grandad and his brother make men's bespoke suits some of which can be seen hanging in the back. They moved on from the workshop and bought a shop nearby; the tailoring business continues today but with my father in charge.
With my paternal grandparents Sabir Hussain Abbasi and Inayat Begum.
