FAMILY PHOTO GALLERY
Jan Athersuch
This photo is over 100 years old and it was taken because the two men in uniform were going off to WW1. They were my Great Uncles Jack and George Lucas. Also pictured, my Great Grandparents, Grandmother Doris Lucas (standing), and Great Aunt Rose Lucas (sitting on her mothers lap) and Great Uncle Jim (small boy standing). George was killed in action aged just 17.

Maya was born in the Suva, Fiji Islands and moved to Willenhall in the 1950’s with her Husband and 2 eldest children. Maya had a further 2 children born in Willenhall, one of which was Alfred (pictured third aged 6). Alfred has always lived and worked in the area and married Nicola in 1990. Their eldest of 2 children, Megan, was born in 1993, pictured last here at aged 8 months in the family christening dress at Woodside Way, Short Heath, Willenhall.

Stephen Godwin
3 generations of the Godwin's of Winson Green. The old guy seated, William Henry, his father was stabbed by his partner in Sutton on Boxing Day 1875. Less than a year later, William was born and adopted by his Uncle. His wife (seated) Sarah was a gentle soul and stood 6ft. She lived with a cancer on her head which she covered with her hair. She lived and ran a small shop at 169 Devonshire Street. Their son (standing) is holding a child Mary. At 6ft 5, like his Mom, a gentle soul, he married Maud (standing with the baby), a dot compared to him but the matriarch among them all. The well dressed lady with the girl standing (Philomena) is Aunt Liz - in 50 days time she would be on the autistic spectrum. The couple getting married were Rose Godwin and George Pritchard who continued to reside in Devonshire Street. The 2 young girls died, one aged 12, the other 9 I think, within a year of each other. Philomena lived her final months in a rehabilitation unit in the Malverns as the illness had caused her to go blind. Maud and William lived at 95 Caversham Road, Kingstanding. The elder, William Henry, was a cobbler and a Freeman of Stafford. His family were Cordwainers. I have the history back to 1640.
William Henry Godwin (seated right). His wife Sarah Godwin nee Allcott (seated to the left), with baby Maud Godwin nee Jennings, baby George Godwin. Married couple George Pritchard and Rose nee Godwin (seated), with Lizzy Godwin and Philomena Godwin. Standing with girl William Godwin Jnr and Monica Mary Godwin.

My paternal Grandfather, William Arthur Wheeler, his wife Lillian Cosier and their first born Lillian May Wheeler. Appears to be a studio portrait but there are no names on the print itself. Lillian bore 11 children between 1911 and 1931, sadly she then died in 1933 from breast cancer and secondary liver cancer. My father believed that his mother was 'disowned' as she had married out of their Jewish faith. However, I can find no record of a Jewish connection and believe it was more likely she was 'disowned' for being pregnant before she was married. From Census records I note she was living with her brother shortly before she got married.

This is a composite picture combining a picture of myself with one from my family archive. For me it represents family tradition and the passing down of knowledge through family.
I stand on the left with my two granddaughters. On the right is my Dad with my eldest daughter, the girls' Mum. The girls look on as their Mum collects potatoes with her Grandad, the same activity they are doing with me.
