North Staffordshire

Throughout early 2026 GRAIN Projects have been working in collaboration with the YMCA to offer participatory sessions with young people. This community photography project has explored themes of adolescence, identity, representation and the natural environment.

Ruby Nixon and Daniel Lyttleton have led workshops in portraiture and landscape, thinking about themes of people and place, lumen printing, cyanotypes and collage. Young people have been invited to think about representation online and in campaigns, and to create work based on their lives and experiences. Along the way they have learnt new skills in photography and picture making.
