The Calling: Vicky Hodgson
24th February 2015 - 5th March 2015
Dean’s Chapel, Worcester
In ‘The Calling’ Vicky Hodgson explores the representation of Anglican female priests through a series of photographic portraits, the priests are photographed wearing simple cassocks and set amongst the vernacular architecture and religious artefacts of their church or cathedral.
Writer Rev Dr Ali Green says about the work, “Vicky Hodgson’s photographs reveal a great deal about her subjects, not least that they are clearly all women. Confronted by these all-female figures en masse, the viewer may find the pictures rather novel, because such a collection would not have been possible in the worldwide Anglican Communion more than a generation or so ago. Moreover, Hodgson has captured these images in historic, holy places where their very presence would have been inconceivable to most people for the best part of two thousand years.
This exhibition marks the 21st anniversary of the ordination of Anglican female priests and comes just a month after the first female Bishop was consecrated.
The exhibition can be on view in the Dean’s Chapel, Worcester Cathedral and runs from 24th February to 5th March 2015.
