About the event: Birmingham Architecture Festival 2013 are extremely excited to be presenting this photographic exhibition of the Central Library by renowned architectural photographer Richard Southall .

This exhibition is a small taster to a much larger volume of images which were produced over a period of 2 months to document the public, archival, administrative and storage areas of Birmingham Central Library. The aim of this work is to try and produce a definitive architectural record of this proud and controversial structure. In its last days, it has only now started to garner the affection and respect it initially failed to gain and Richard tried to capture the last halcyon days of the library both through its dominate Brutalist architecture and the ‘human’ touches of its individual users.

About Richard Southall: Richard Southall has been a Birmingham based photographer for over 25 years and specialises in the photography of restaurants, bars, casinos, nightclubs and high residential properties. His latest personal projects include Spaghetti Junction and The Last Days of Birmingham Library.
